Kaolin is a cost effective pigment, gives more opacity, gloss and brushability
White kaolin which is high in silica and alumina is widely used in the manufacturing of paint. It is considered a more cost-effective alternative to titanium dioxide. Kaolin is essential to improve brightness of colours, opacity, gloss, viscosity, control texture for disbursement and coatability in paint. Calcined kaolin is particularly useful in creating crack resistant paint with high gloss and opacity.
Clay imparts the following properties in Paint formulations
- Good Dispersibility in water based system
- Good Opacity, Gloss & Brushability
- Higher viscosity
- Good filling property
- Anti-settling property
- Anti-sagging properties
